How checks work
An active check rolls two six-sided dice plus your effective skill against a fixed target number. Rolling double 1s always fails; double 6s always succeed. White checks can be retried after modifiers or story progress change; red checks are one-shot.
| Difficulty | DC | Pass chance at skill 8 |
|---|---|---|
| Trivial | 6 | 97% |
| Easy | 8 | 97% |
| Medium | 10 | 97% |
| Challenging | 12 | 92% |
| Formidable | 13 | 83% |
| Legendary | 14 | 72% |
| Heroic | 15 | 58% |
| Godly | 16 | 42% |
| Impossible | 20 | 3% |
Passive checks never roll: the game compares a static passive difficulty against your current skill and reveals the line only if you pass. That is why raising a skill makes new things appear in conversations you already had.
Odds for every combination are on the check odds page; every individual check has its own page with an odds table.
