Your eyes glide over the horse, over its patina green coat. Something about the mount's sad animal-eyes makes you pause...

The thought rings hollow in your silent mind. It's even quieter on the roundabout, under the brilliant sun.

- Continue
- Wind takes some of the tickets across the pavement, littering the streets with paper police officers...
- A figure in a day dress, cuddled up in an armchair... she looks up and smiles at you across the living room.
- You can feel the lieutenant's stillness next to you...
- Somewhere in a hospital bed the lieutenant turns onto his side, feverish and exhausted...

Savvy's here, watching the little fiasco of the horseback monument. You should distance yourself from this project. Say it's your Personal Brand Strategist gone rogue.

'Gone rogue'? No, Idiot Doom Spiral has finally achieved something remarkable.

Of course you're going to distance yourself from your misdeeds -- the lying, the conning, the exploitation...

Spoken like a true hustler. We have a long way to go -- your net worth is still nothing if you factor in the tax!

- A Boring Cop? No. You're a hustler -- and you've got a long way to go. Your net worth is still nothing if you factor in the tax!
- Beauty doesn't cut it. We have a long way to go -- your net worth is still nothing if you factor in the tax!
- Maybe... But we still have a long way to go -- your net worth is nothing if you factor in the tax!

A bright chromatic splash lounges across the surface of the monument. It's not obvious if the paint has any intentional form or if it being there in the first place is statement enough.

The lieutenant considers the restoration for a few seconds. "Am I not seeing something here? There's not much to it."

Oh yes, much is to be discussed at length here. The éclaboussure breaks up the lines of the original bronze piece, setting up an act of rebellion for us all to follow. It is an anarcho-modern calling -- destruction of the past, cause for the future.

Nothing to see here but disrespect. The old figure will outlive this pathetic lick of paint. The past always endures.
This splash was obviously made with a clumsy hand. Perhaps it adds to the artistry?

He nods, eyes still on the defaced statue above, on the deviant smear delivering a florid punch to its dreary surroundings.

"Who?" The lieutenant meets your eyes with a questioning glance -- then looks up again.
